Avatar - what's up with the Avatar?

I cannot get a picture to upload as my avatar. Can anyone help? Is the feature working or has it been disabled?

A JPG file is the best. A 72dpi RGB JPG file even better!

Rephrase - it only makes sense in the context of a given print size - dpi means nothing on screen, as monitor resolution and size vary.

72 dpi has been adopted as the standard image resolution for all screen displays, regardless of monitor resolution and size, so it means a great deal on screen. It is to do with minimising file sizes and download speeds more than image quality. Anyway...

Yeah sorry, a facetious statement has turned into a semantic argument (must be the influence of a jobsworth [expletive deleted] I've just been talking to). But.....what I was trying to say was an image cannot in itself be 72dpi. Shall we move on? Big Smile

Before computers and screens (and digital imagery) there was lines per inch for printing, so there was possibly a print resolution of 72 lpi, but don't quote me on that. As you probably know, the standard print resolution is 300 dpi and the job I have explaining this to Design students isn't easy. Move on I have JD.

I seem to be having the same problem with the Avatar. I've tried uploading pictures/images of different sizes and nothing seems to work. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
