That is to be expected.

I quote....

"Sync speeds (and Data Rates) for poorer lines can and
will vary over the this training period and users may experience
frequent disconnects and slower speeds until their most stable rate
is found."

I will bet you that in 10 days you are back to 1 meg (or worse)

BT landline based connections are rubbish unless your house is virtually on top of your nearest digital exchange. There is nothing Sky or BT can do about this without improving the entire circuit between you and the exchange. And if my city is typical there is a lot of old junk cable still out there and no-one is going to dig it all up for you.

BT are never going to change anything until every user threatens to cease their service. They have a virtual monopoly. Whichever provider you go to (except Virgin Media cable) they get money from you anyway, so they don't have any motivation to improve anything. Whether you get 8meg or 250k from the 'advertised' maximum rate, they still get the same amount of cash from you or the provider.

Read this lot (the other website sections are very informative too).

Better still, get Virgin Media cable if you can.

This is very true. I am very close to our digital exchange and get excellent speeds. However, my in-laws are down the road about 1/2 mile and they get rubbish speeds. You should do a speed test and find out what the maximum you can get and then scale down your package with Sky. No point paying for 16mbps when you can only get 3 or 4. I get a strong 8-9mbps.
