I've been to two concerts this year basshunter & ultrabeat, & i haven't had any problem with people talking, mind you the music was that loud, you couldn't hear anybody speak anyway.

I guess this problem could also be down to the size of venue and where you sit. In a stdium sized gig, like a Pink Floyd concert, there's a feeling of being remote from the action on the stage if you're near the back (even with projection screens, lasers etc) While I still enjoy huge concerts I much prefer smaller intimate indoors gigs where the sound fills the auditorium and would certainly drown out any annoying conversations.

It could also be due to the type of audience. I've been to ATP a couple of times and when I saw Shellac play you could have heard a pin drop at the (few) quieter parts. A lot of people probably go to gigs as part of a night out as opposed to going as a fan.

I hear what you're saying Drummerdave, but surely it's all about having some consideration for other people. Also, there must be alot of people out there with alot of spare cash if they can afford to spend money on going to see bands that they have no real interest in listening to. I personally wouldn't dream of spoiling someone else's enjoyment/night out - I'm not being a goody goody or a party pooper - I just wouldn't do it. It amazes me that people can't actually keep their gobs shut for the duration of a gig. outside if you want to talk about what you had for dinner last night...

PA must be pretty feeble if people can have a convo during gig. Whatever happened to 'ears bleeding' sound rigs? Health and safety gone mad, etc...

Yes I totally agree that concert goers should show consideration to other audience members. I’ll never forget a Fugazi gig in Derry when the band asked the crowd not to stage dive in case somebody got hurt, and one guy didn’t listen and dived off the stage kneeing someone on the nose. Ian McKaye managed to grab the guy and finished the song (playing guitar) while kneeling on the guy’s neck. He then made him apologise to his bloody-nosed victim. The public humiliation worked.
But that’s getting off-topic, I think there must be plenty of people who go to gigs that have been given a spare ticket or received one as a present who aren’t necessarily huge fans of the performing act; the evidence is there in the disinterested chit chat.
Personally, I’ve rarely been to an indoors gig where the volume would allow anything other than a shouted comment during a song, let alone a conversation.

Must admit most gigs i go to, you struggle to hear what the person next to you is saying, let alone anyone else.

Although me and the Mrs have stopped going to the pictures as the last two times we went ('Saw' and before that 'Gladiator') the films were spolied by teenagers giggling, messing around with their mobile phones, whispering loudly, and just generally behaving like immature idiots.

Maybe because I have just bought a 600A I can now no longer afford to go to the pictures either.  LOL.

Also I don't want to get fleeced on the pick and mix. £6 for a bag of maltesers?  Are you sure you have that right?

Re: Audiences jabbering during gigs! Shut the... up, will you!

It did get a bit annoying at Hyde Park during Neil Young`s peformance. As well as that I seemed to get stuck in an area where people were moving past me all the time and one person in particular nearly knocked me over. It was only by putting my hand out to the person in front that stopped me from going down. "No need to say sorry mate!" Put that in just incase he`s reading this.

There`s only one thing more annoying than chatting at a gig and that`s when you are sitting behind the goal at a football match where everyone has a perfect view and then lo and behold when a player starts to get close to the 18 yard box everyone stands up! Aaargh! There`s nothing worse than taking your young (at the time) son to a game and he missed the only goal of the game because I wasn`t quick enough picking him up to see the goal because everyone in front had stood up. You`ve paid for a seat, you have a perfect view, don`t do it! Or at least not until after the ball has gone in the net.

Its a problem at any gig in Glasgow. I've lost track of the number of gigs where it seems like no one is there to see the bands!
