I hear what you're saying Drummerdave, but surely it's all about having some consideration for other people. Also, there must be alot of people out there with alot of spare cash if they can afford to spend money on going to see bands that they have no real interest in listening to. I personally wouldn't dream of spoiling someone else's enjoyment/night out - I'm not being a goody goody or a party pooper - I just wouldn't do it. It amazes me that people can't actually keep their gobs shut for the duration of a gig. outside if you want to talk about what you had for dinner last night...
Yes I totally agree that concert goers should show consideration to other audience members. I’ll never forget a Fugazi gig in Derry when the band asked the crowd not to stage dive in case somebody got hurt, and one guy didn’t listen and dived off the stage kneeing someone on the nose. Ian McKaye managed to grab the guy and finished the song (playing guitar) while kneeling on the guy’s neck. He then made him apologise to his bloody-nosed victim. The public humiliation worked.
But that’s getting off-topic, I think there must be plenty of people who go to gigs that have been given a spare ticket or received one as a present who aren’t necessarily huge fans of the performing act; the evidence is there in the disinterested chit chat.
Personally, I’ve rarely been to an indoors gig where the volume would allow anything other than a shouted comment during a song, let alone a conversation.
