Every club has a blip during the season, hopefully we have had ours and can now produce fantastic results like the one against man u.

I posted the very same line, immediately after the Lyon defeat on my Facebook page. I love Rafa. I think he's still the best man for the job. There are many fans that just don't get the full picture and lot of the time it's because they read and believe all the papers. Benitez had to sell Alonso. He was desperate to leave. He had been a brilliant player for us and we made a 200% profit on his fee. Why deprive him the chance to play for his country's biggest side? The players that have been bought under the £10m mark are gambles. He has bought these because he hasn't had the funds to buy no risk players. Some have been good gambles (Arbeloa, Agger, Skrtel, Lucas - I like Lucas, Reina, Benayoun, Riera), others have not been (Voronin, Pennant, Degen). On the whole though, he hasn't lost a great deal on the players he's moved on and some like Alonso, have made a huge profit. He's stuck his neck out for players like Torres, Johnson and Aquillani by spending, for Liverpool, big price tags on players that other teams had not deemed worthy. I honestly believe when all our players are fit, we will take some stopping. I pray Aquillani stays fit and produces the goods. He really could make a massive difference.

some people are calling for his head , and as much as i like him , and respect him as a manager , there are serious questions to be asked , why did he buy aquillane , when he knew he would miss almost a 3rd of the season ? why has he persisted with , ngog , el zhar , and the useless voronin ? spending £17m on glen johnson looks like good business , but he is a defender , albeit an attacking one , surely after last season benitez must have known that it was cover for torres and gerard that was needed ? 7 home draws cost liverpool the league , not being able to break down the likes of hull and stoke is the difference between utd and pool , look at uniteds forward line from last year , rooney , ronaldo , tevez , berbatov ... benitez should have bought a top forward , maybe two , crouch , pavlychenko , huntelar , babtista , tevez , adebayor , bent , the list goes on , i know the tight ass yanks were not going to break the bank , but if he bought any two of those names , instead of aquillani and johnson , and maybe got cattermole , surely the squad would be much stronger ??? is it just me that sees the teams current state being down to him ??

He bought Aquillani because he had to sell Alonso and he obviously rates him highly. Ok, he's missed 10 league games so far and we are 6 points off the top. Hardly the end of the world. Johnson was bought because Arbeloa was going and he's the best Right Back in the country - what's he supposed to do, get an average replacement?

No top quality player in the world is going to come to Liverpool to be understudy for Torres and Gerrard. It's not rocket science. We play with one up front. If fit, Torres will play every game. Ngog is 19, scored yesterday and has a great future. He is the perfect sub as he is quick, enthusiastic and will not moan about not playing. As for United, they play 2 up front and have Rooney, Berbatov and Owen. Hardly loads of options. If two of them get injured, who have they got? Chelsea play 2 up front and have Anelka, Drogba and Kalou. Again, not loads of options. The only team that have loads of options is Man City. I wonder why they have loads of options??

If he hadn't bought Johnson, who would you play at Right Back?? I think Catermole is decent but he's very much like Jay Spearing and he can't get in the side.

It's 'orrible being a dedcated fan. I've been through it over the last 30 years with Chelsea, so I know how you feel, Gerrard. Let's be honest though, if Liverpool lose another 2 games between now and Christmas - hand on heart - will your loyalty to Rafa remain steadfast?

As I said, been there just prior to Jose's tenure ended. The difference being was, apart from the Champions League, he'd won every domestic trophy going -- that kinda softens the blow.....

Hand on heart, PP, yes I will. The only manager I've ever wanted to see the back of was Houllier. He ruined the football team. We played very boring stuff which was effective most of the time, but not enough to get close to winning the league. Souness had the hardest job as all the players from the golden era (1985-1989) were too old and had to move on. He had the right idea but maybe did it too quickly. I accepted that he had to go but I was not calling for his head like I was with Houllier. Benitez has won the Champions League, got us closest to the Premier League in 20 years (4 points off last season), has given us Torres, 5 years of Alonso, brought back Fowler (another reason to hate Houllier), turned Gerrard into a machine and made us intimidating for any side. No club wants to play us in the CL - least of all your lot (vice versa too!).

Re: time for benitez to go ??

what do you do when your drawing away from home , in a must win game , with the best striker in the world playing brilliantly , and the game at his mercy ? ans. you take him off , along with your other decent striker kuyt , and one of your most dangerous players benayoun ... come on folks , liverpool will be lucky to get into the uefa league with benitez at the helm , he has to go ...

Like the Man Utd game i'm guessing he didn't want to risk Torres for
the whole game. The amount of pressure on football managers is
ridiculous. How different would English football be if Mark Robins didn't score for Man Utd against Forest in 1990?

Luckily England have got a manager a doesn't give a
flying duck about what other people think, we actually have a chance of
winning the world cup!

Re: time for benitez to go ??

I think the Fosbury Flop is coming to Benitez. He's yet again proved how inept he is when it comes to making major decisions. I normally have sympathy for any manager because of its 'poison chalice' reputation, but in 5 years, apart from Champions league and 1 domestic trophy, has done nothing. If he stays, Liverpool will very lucky to even qualify for next seasons Champions League.

Re: time for benitez to go ??

More of a case for the yanks to go i think.  I still think Benitez had no choice but to take Torres off because of the upcoming game with Lyon.

The biggest mistake iv seen Rafa make since he joined Liverpool is to keep Babel side lined..the guy has the potential to be an amazing striker..he is a different player when playing for Holland.  If he was given the chance to play upfront with Torres week in week out i think he'd become an animal and also relieve the pressure off Torres.
