Re: Pioneer Kuro PDP-LX5090 v Phillips PFL9664 47"

My suggestion is to buy the  much awarded Philips 46PFL9704. I have been using it for over three weeks and before I decided on it I had it compared with a Kuro.

Re: Pioneer Kuro PDP-LX5090 v Phillips PFL9664 47"

I found that the picture quality was ... better !

The comparison was side by side in a dealer's studio. Also, I did not like the fact that Pioneer is giving up the production of Kuros but this was not really important.

Since we purchased the set, I (and my wife) cannot imagine how is it possible not to use Ambilight all the time! -It appears that Philips has taken over the world market of high quality TVs. Just have a look at the trustedreviews.com reviews. Kuro is of the highest quality too, but - in my opinion - already outdated.

I use the Ambilight all the time too and it light's up the picture even more.

Just read the review on the home page for the philips pfl9664 47 inch sounds fantastic as normal for a high end philips.

I would definetely have a look at them if you can, I know most people say go for the pioneer plama's but the philips have the edge for me and I have seen a few.

barnsleydave:

What buzzing?

Get the pioneer while you still can.

Agree the only buzzing that I notice is when the wife asks me to do something. No buzz here.  I never use the sound on my set .(6090)

But not very good at upscaling DVDs? Bit behind the 2007/2008 Pioneers still then.

I think you'll find the vast majority of owners of large flatpanel TVs have neither an AV amp nor a Blu-ray player...

Re: Pioneer Kuro PDP-LX5090 v Phillips PFL9664 47"

If you don't get the Kuro you would be better of getting an LG50PS8000 than the Phillips. The LG represents much better value for money over the phillips and a better picture.
