It will be interesting to see what happens to Freesat when Freeview HD launches later this year. Devil

Re: FREESAT DEAD DUCK OF THE FUTURE?

i expected to see C4  HD when its exclusivity with sky ended.  Regular C4 is a free-to-air, so assumed the HD version would be too.  I also expected ITV to become a real boy, Geppetto - but it's not improved at all. Other than Champions' League, there's nowt else worth the money on there.

If it's any consolation, BBC iPlayer will be coming to Freesat soon. More details in our News story.

I think people need to have realistic expectations of the service (many haven't been, with Freesat),otherwise they're likely to be disappointed, especially after channel 5 HD joins Freeview in Q3 2010 and the average bitrate drops on the existing HD channels to accomodate it.

Re: FREESAT DEAD DUCK OF THE FUTURE?

Lots of people use Freesat because they can't get Freeview.  I can understand some frustration if you're using Freesat because you couldn't get HD on Freeview though!
Cyrus CD8x + PSXR / HUMAX Freesat+ / Sony PS3 > Cyrus AV Master 8.0 > Cyrus SP+ > WB Square Ones (Chord Odyssey 4) >> WB Square Centre (Chord Odyssey 2) >> Eltax Rears (cheap QED)

Re: FREESAT DEAD DUCK OF THE FUTURE?

It seems to be getting more confusing by the minute! - I have freesat, but only because I liked the Panasonic TV's and got a good deal on the model with built in Freesat (and freeview as well). This meant I could get rid of the boxes that plagued my TV cabinet as I still have my old sky dish on the house.

What will really fry my noodle would be if Freesat did take a turn for the worse on the HD access front and Freeview HD became more of a major player as I would then miss out unless I bought yet another box and be back where I started. I would however, still have a cracking picture Cool

Re: FREESAT DEAD DUCK OF THE FUTURE?

So is it worth getting Freesat or stick with freeview ?

Reason for asking is that my aerial needs replacing ( Ih ave sky HD but its handy to be able to watch something else when your recording two programmes)

Re: FREESAT DEAD DUCK OF THE FUTURE?

I live in Norway where the sat signals are rather weak on the Sky/FreeSat systems and despite having a professional 1.2 metre ChannelMaster dish and a 0.2dB LNB, I frequently get picture breakup from the BBC & ITV channels during extremely bad weather or snowstorms when viewing on my Sammy HD, but switching over to my trusty Humax HD receiver, the picture is perfect.
The audio/video quality from both systems is excellent via HDMI on a Sony 52W4500 with colour rendition slightly more accurate when viewing on the Humax although there is not much in it.

I'm really curious to see if the imminent FreeSat iPlayer will work over here as all the units are connected via fibre network.
By the way, turned on the Humax today to find they have redesigned the GUI which was rather a nice surprise.

I think FreeSat is important if only to give Sky and Virgin competition.

Here's hoping it lives longer than my original Nokia Dmac BSB system all those years ago . . . .       ;-0
