Sorry the_Ihc, i dont think you get waht i mean as i have checked on my parents sky and had a look o the web and im right. You can record 2 programs at the same time on sky yes, but then you can only watch a channel you are recording or watch something you have previously recorded on the planner. With Virgin you can record 2 programs at the same time, and then watch a completely different channel. So if there are 3 things i want to watch at the same time, i can record 2 and watch the 3rd. Thats what i meant.

When is there ever three things on at the same time that you want to watch?? I have had the experience of watching and messing around with the Virgin HD box and the exact same tv as mine round at my sisters. It's rubbish! Apart from being able to record three things at once, it offers nothing else. The amount of HD programmes is poor and the response time, switching channels, is painful. They have now changed to Sky HD also. The picture is slightly better with Sky as well.

As for bluray being not that great on a 2 year old 720p screen, well you must have poor eye sight or the screen must be set up wrong.

Quite a few times there have been 3 things i want at the same time. Well usually it was the girlfriend wanting 1 programme, me wanting another, so we record them both and then watch a 3rd we both agreed on. As for Virgin not offering anything more thats where they are the best. There is so many tv programmes on demand you can just watch anytime for free. I havent bought a DVD in ages because there is always something on. They had the full band of brothers in HD, so i sat and watched them . Saved me £30buying it. Most of my favourite programes are on and all free. Watched a load of red dwarf the other day when i was bored. And last night watched curb your enthusiasm series 5. I love the Virgin on demand. So much free content you dont get with sky.

Virgin needs all of these on demand programmes because there are no channels to watch!Big Smile I used to spend a fortune on Virgins on demand services but since I've had Sky I haven't had to spend a single penny ordering extra programmes. You might get re-runs of 10 year old red dwarf and whatever but when it comes to adding a decent channel like sky sports they'll ask you to cough up around £20 for just that channel. If I chose to add another whole sky package tomorrow it would cost me as little as £1. No contest here IMO when it comes to value for money. I'm one of few that has tried both services over long periods of time so I know what I'm talking about. Also with Sky you get added bonuses like your broadand actually working which is handyWink

On demand is free (except movies) so shouldnt cost anything. As for number of channels is has everything sky has(except many HD). It even has ESPN & ESPN HD/america/classic (which i watch alot) for FREE and it costs £9 a month extra on sky. SO to get all the movies all the sports and espn costs £34 on sky. It costs £27.50 on Virgin. So for me i get all the channels and all the on demand for free and it costs less than what Sky does it for. Man i should work for Virgin the way im carrying on. Lol. And all i really wanted to know was when my parents would get the new EPG.

Maybe that's all you should have asked!

Have you got a new girlfriend now then? I've never had Sky but I've had Virgin for years and do use the 3 tuners all the time it's a great feature.

Re: New Sky EPG!! and sky is a bit naff

Now thw superbikes have finished for the season i changed my package from news pack which as Eurosport to the style and culture pack.

I have a HD Samsung box and ive been waiting for ages for the new Epg, well low and behold Sky decided to update my box to the new Epg when they changed my package.

So if anyone out there is still waiting it may be worth adding or changing your package  and you may get the new Epg att he same time.

I think the new Epg is a lot better than the old one, it shows all the usual repeats that are on but in a new format!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New Sky EPG!! and sky is a bit naff

The new EPG is nothing to do with you upgrading your package - it has been a phased roll out for all the Samsung boxes, and it IS completely random!! Our Sammy box knocked itself off at about 11.15 on friday morning, 5 minutes later it re-booted and the new EPG was there.

Don't know quite why people were getting so excited. It's certainly in Widescreen, but it is not Hi Def as the cheesy advert stated. It's more Better definition than the old EPG! Looks better, but there is far too much going on - it would have been better to have the navi bar down the left hand side of the screen, and have items branch off, (like the review searches on this very site for example), this would really save clutter. then simply have the tv guide on when you hit a certain button. The mini tv is a rather indulgent addition i feel, that could be easily done without - exactly how long do they expect us to be looking for something to watch lol!

And as for adding ITV HD, there is so little on there it's criminal. And what's the point of having Star Wars in HD if you can't show it in the right format, full frame 16;9 and it had a distinct whiff of 'upscaling' about it. Hmmmmmm. I'l wait and see before i rubbish it anymore :-)

It certainly runs very quickly on our box, not the dog it seems to have been on other brands, but hopefully future software fixes and enhancements will turn it into the guide it really should, (and deserves) to be :-)

Think you'll find that was completely coincidental as Sky upgraded a number of boxes last week and are intending to upgrade the remaing samsungs over the next few weeks.....
