Re: question for whfi team , re , panasonic 46g10...

I was wondering what the difference between "black depth" and "insight into blacks" was. I assume black depth simply means how black the black levels are, whilst the insight bit, I guess, is the level of detail and the shades within black/dark scenes. Is that right?

On a side note, I noticed that my v10 produces really good blacks, but after the first 200 hours or so when I increased the contrast from about 35% to 60%, the different shades within black scenes became more visible, and it produced greater detail within dark scenes. So the moral of that story is crank up the contrast. (but not too high - don't want it looking like it would on the dynamic setting!)

Re: question for whfi team , re , panasonic 46g10...

i saw about a half hour of "alien v predator , requiem" on a friends kuro , useless film imo, but a great test for insight in dark scenes , needless to say , the kuro aced it , showling much more detail than i recall seeing on my tv , at the time , a 46pz8b ..

now , seeing as this years g10, v10 plasmas have very good blacks ,40000to1 contrast ratio , as opposed to my old pannys 15000to1 im hoping they will deal with similar dark murky movies better , like the kuro (i know , not as well , but closer) , thats what i think i value most in a tv , they can all do the bright scenes well , most current 1080p sets anyway , most seem to have good blacks , black depth too ( i also understand that to be what you do hmtb , the inkyness if you like)  judging by reviews and what ive seen , but to be able to see more of whats going on in a dark scene (aka the kuro) without too much brightness ,  is what i think im looking for , im hoping the g10 will fit the bill ....

Re: question for whfi team , re , panasonic 46g10...

'Black depth' = proper black blacks

'Insight into blacks' = shadow depth, textures in black surfaces, etc

At least that's how I understand it...
