hi, I am looking for a new aerial cable from my tv to the wall socket, the one i have at the moment is one of those cheap ones from diy stores and the fittings are not very good.There are two i am looking at on the web , one is ixos premium quad shielded with aluminium the other is Qed high performance with aluminium. Now i have been looking at Satcure web site and they say that aluminium coating is not good and the best is copper.I dont know which one to go for, they are both around the £20 mark and both the specs read as tho they are the best, but are they?Are they worth the coppers!  pardon the pun! or could i get one cheaper and it do the job just as well.I wont a custom made one,Satcure dont make them anymore. Hope you can help, i know people have different views on cables, i just wont a good one.  thanks tinytots

Try MarkGrant.  His TV Aerial cables (Flyleads) are £13.  I personally would try and source a cheaper one as there is no need to spend that much.  A TV installer should be able to knock one up for you.  As long as they're not using poor quality coax, there is no need for exotic RF cables.  I can recommend Mark Grant's cables though, he uses good quality components and everything is hand built and tested.

 

Another option would be Profigold or the Ixos blue one on sale at the same site.  I have not used them but have profigold cables and phono cables from the Ixos blue range in my car and 2nd setup and they're good enough.

 

Have Satcure completely stopped making custom RF flyleads then?

I agree,when it comes to TV aerial/satellite fly leads you dont need to buy the exotica!

I'm suprised that satcure wont make you a lead up to be honest!

As d4v3pum say's, see if you can get a local installer or even aerial/satellie shop/supplier(if you have one) to make you a lead up, Make sure it's good  quality 75 ohm double screened cable such as webro wf100 or similar,

Or if you have any technical ability,buy the cable and a couple of co-ax connectors and make it up your self. It isn't difficult and you can find instructions on the web to show you how to do it if you're not sure

hi thanks for advice,well my husband would have no problem making one up as hes always made the other ones, but its me, i am drawn to the exotica! when you read the spec it seems like they are the tops and others are the poor relations. thanks again. tinytots

We supply coaxial cable, cut to length, with or without 'F' or TV plugs fitted. We supply WF100 in six different colours including yellow, red and green.

Do you mean Aluminised Mylar film? It is fairly useless for screening. Its resistance is high and it's not very robust. We won't stock it.

Aluminium foil is fine but its resistance is slightly higher than that of pure copper. In addition, if aluminium foil and copper braid are in contact with each other, corrosion can occur in warm, damp conditions. The risk is high outdoors where UV can break down the PVC sheath, rendering it porous. Indoors it's hardly a consideration.

Im intrigued  Satcure ~ are you saying that their ARE differences in coax cable under say 2 meters. (So that theyll be heard in 'real world' circumstances)

Yes - if your hearing goes up to 950MHz and above.

Unfortunately, due to age, mine cuts off below 8kHz. :(

So theres no difference to  bass frequencies at all?

hi, Sorry satcure on looking back on your webb site it was the in- between sizes that you dont do custom lenths for anymore. tinytots ps refering to aerials cables.
