Re: Wii vs PS3

Yeh but the wii's 2player mode in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is pretty rubbish where u cant even fight each other..all you do is fight wave after wave of crappy robots. The online modes of the ps3 and the 360 are the games saving grace.

Since your not into sports games or driving games, which really have been the main 2 player games since the days of the mega drive and snes the only thing i can recommend is fighting games.  I dont see many other genres that have ever had 2 player modes even since the early consoles.

The wii tries to put in 2 player modes in nearly all its games becuase its online network cant compete with xbox live or psn.  However if you look at the wii's best games..eg zelda, mad world, mario galaxy etc dont even have 2 player modes in them.

Gaming as a whole has moved on from 2 player gaming unless your willing to follow sports, driving or the fighting genres and this is because a alot of gamers want to play games competitively on the online networks, that is why websites such as gamebattles are so popular to gamers.

People here are recommending  the PS3 as there is Killzone and the up and coming MAG but even those will be online multiplayer.  Dont get me wrong the PS3 is a great machine, it gives you everything in one system, however a console in my honest opinion is for gaming and if it doesnt have a wide range of good quality games then i cant even see it as a contender.  The PS3 has Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid, God of War and Gran Turismo and spending next to £300 for a console with 5 must buy games is not worth it.

Fifa 09, Pro Evo 09, Virtua Tennis, Top Spin, Madden, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, NBA Live 09, PGR 4, Forza 2, Burnout Paradise, Fight Night Round 4, Street Fighter 4, Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger,   Gears of War Local Co-op and Local Versus. Rock Band, Guitar Hero etc etc

The list goes on when it comes to 2 player games on the one console.  Infact there are less games that dont have a 2 player element.

Yes PS3 will have MAG, but 256 players online trying to co operate wont work, even if it does the biggest thing that will let it down is UK broadband.  It cant cope with 16 players let along 256 players. Itl be a lagfest lol

Have all 3 and PS3 gets the most use by far, Wii next then the 360 for which I havn't brought a game in ages. And the PS3 copes with 32 players on Killzone 2 absolutely fine thanks via Sky BB. 8)

May i ask which ps3 and 360 games you have?

Well.....

Killzone 2, both Resistance's, both Motorstorm's, LBP, RE5, GT5, Dead Space, MGS, GTA4, Fallout 3, COD5.

I do have GOW1,2, Burnout Paradise, The Orange Box, Halo's, Mass Effect, COD4 and a few others on 360.

I've said it before but now if a game is multiformat then I get the PS3 version because MY 360 is horrendously noisy and very off putting even with my surround whacked right up. I'm waiting for the day it just dies on me too......... I just prefer the PS3 hardware.

Don't get me wrong, the game I played most last year was Mass Effect on 360 which I finished 3 times even though it kept freezing and crashing. I can't wait for the sequel.

360 online is probably better but then you pay for it, I wasn't using it enough so I let the subscription lapse.

If a game is exclusive to a console then yes I would buy it on any one.

Re: Wii vs PS3

Noise is really a non issue since the xbox live dash update as you can install the games to the hard drive, even if you have a 20gb version you could just install the game your currently playing.

As for multiformat games, 99% percent of the time the 360 version runs at a smoother frame rate and has sharper and cleaner graphics.  Thats not me saying that, its reviews from alot of gaming websites.

Your right that xbox live costs money, but paying 28 quid for 13 months is not alot especially when you compare the online experience.

As for the games you mentioned, you have alot of shooters and in my opinion the thumbsticks on the dual shock are just too close together to be used properly for fps games.

Done that with GOW2 and mine is still too noisy. Bad hardware imo.

Maybe but I cant say i'm unimpressed with what I'm seeing at the mo.

Fair point but I have no issues.

Personally I find them fine.

Re: Wii vs PS3

lol That doesnt make sense, if the game is installed to the hard drive, there wont be any disc spinnin noise and there wont be any fan noise.  Does ur 360 make noises when its on the dashboard? Cos thts what it should sound like if you have the game installed on the hard drive.  Side by side the PS3 and the 360 sound the same when they are running games from the hard drive.  Is your 360 one of the originals that came out at launch?

I must admit there is a point i hate bout the 360, the fact you cant add your own hard drive into it and are forced to buy a xbox 360 one.

Re: Wii vs PS3

My Xbox is far louder than my PS3 even when running idle. When a disc spins the Xbox sounds like it's grinding gears together sometimes!

If yours makes the same noise as the PS3, then you're a lucky man.

Re: Wii vs PS3

I dnt think its a matter of luck as they arent meant to sound like ur grinding through gears, best option would be to exchange it for one of the newer models that have the jasper chipset inside them.

Re: Wii vs PS3

It generally only sounds like it's grinding gears for the first few seconds of the disk spinning. And this is already a replacement of one that RRODed on me a few months ago so I don't think they'll just swap it again (unless I get another RROD of course!).

Anyway, the point being, even if the disc isn't spinning, the Xbox 360 is still considerably louder than the PS3 when both are just idling.

Re: Wii vs PS3

Yeh they dont send out brand new replacement models, usually just refurbished ones and to be honest i wouldnt trust a refurbished model.  Like i said before if your 360 is considerably louder than the PS3 when idling then your 360 is definately faulty.  Im not sayin that because i dont like PS3s im sayin it cos i deal with these consoles on a day to day basis.

Re: Wii vs PS3

Okay, if you say so fella - in which case, it seems me and all three of my friends who have both consoles also have faulty Xboxes as well, which again doesn't bode well for the console...

Everything else works just fine though - I'll give Microsoft a call and see what they say since I have an extended warranty on it.

Re: Wii vs PS3

I setup and organise LAN competitions so i have access to more than 4 consoles.  The grinding sound u mention seems to be faulty components as i had a console which did the same thing, it could also lead to disc scratching.
