Just out of interest, what would I be looking at brand new these days as an equivalent to the marantz pm6010Ki and Pioneer A400?
as i mentioned in one of my posts i did demo several new amps to my original A400. The amps i demoed were the Arcam A28, Cyrus 8VS2 and Naim 5
i. Whilst some of these amps improved on the level of detail the A400 had they could not match it in terms of all round performance. The Naim came the closest but when i took it home it didnt have any synergy with my system and i didnt really get on with it in general.
also, to confirm what andrew said before, i also owned an arcam alpha 8 and its not a patch on the A400.
now hurry up and buy one!!!
ps. anyone worried about the capacitors in their A400, you can replace them for about £30 with top notch Mundorf Mylitic Si Caps. This will bring your amp back to life and as far as i can tell it doesnt alter the sound too much - certainly not in any detrimental way.
