You really do like trying to pull apart people's arguments, and their syntax don't you Andrew!
I would disagree with you, I know many more people upgrading from a smaller ld to a large or buying a flatscreen tv for the first time who either currently have blu-ray (more common with those upgrading from smaller sets) or are buying blu-ray players at the same time. HD is being pushed so much now it's seen as the thing people need to have, and now that Bluray players like the Sony BDP-S360 and entry Philips models are available at prices only a little higher than premium dvd players, it's an easy choice for potential buyers spending hundreds of pounds on a large flatscreen to pay £50 more than the upscaling DVD players to get an entry blu-ray player which let's face it - not only is backwards compatible with DVDs, but has 4 times the capacity and thus contains 4 times as much information as DVDs!
Plus, amongst those considering large LCDs there are quite a lot who own PS3s, since it ties together the home cinema purpose of playing hd films on thier hd ready or 1080p screen, and being an upgrade on their previous generation of games console
I agree with you though about AV amps because obviously to make the inclusion of one worthwhile, one would need a surround sound system which many people can't accomodate/feel is not necessary for enjoyment or whatever.
