Pioneer PDP 50/6090 available from... was:Ruling required by Mr Everard...

Andrew, my local dealer has (limited) stock of the Pioneer PDP-5090 and 6090 (I know they have, they're on the wall in the showroom!), I was wondering whether it was permitted to mention the name of the dealer in question or whether that's classed as advertising?

I'm not connected to or affiliated to the dealer in question, other than that's where I bought my KRP-500a from (and no, they don't have any of those left either...), just wanted to check it was ok to let people here know? ta...

No kit worth mentioning...

I think Mr E may be on a plane, but since you're not affiliated, "There's A Shop Near Me..." would appear to be a reasonable place to finish the sentence with "...has (limited) stock of the Pioneer PDP-5090 and 6090 and its name is..."

Well yes, I could say that but am I allowed to say *which* shop. Otherwise the result, whilst entertaining, might not be particularly useful...

I'll third that. No problem with you helping others know where they can buy them as stock is fast running out. So...

In todays  terms, this is Redknapp syndrome- I'm off to the bookies for £10  to win  on AE getting off the plane and saying no in a uncharacteristically grumpy way.

Harry, Jamie or dare I say it, even Louise?

Ok, well it's Bernard Smith, in Barnstaple, North Devon (very North, very Devon), some of you may know Barnstaple from a recent episode of The Secret Millionaire, a bigger den of scum and villainy you won't find anywhere, according to them...

Anyway, website is http://www.bernardsmith.co.uk/, they're a Pioneer Level 1 dealer. Click on the News link and you'll actually see the two TVs in question in the first image, the 5090 is on the left, the 6090 on the right (their stock of KRPs sold out quicker than the PDPs, which is mildly interesting).

Only two provisos, I've no idea what their delivery policy is, usually the price you pay includes delivery and setup, what they'd do for someone at the other end of the country I don't know, but that brings me to the other point. Don't expect a discount! They know exactly how much these cost and how sought after they are, they will be selling for £RRP+ I'm afraid (they have the new LX-72 and 82 amps in stock now for example, the 82 is selling for £200 MORE than the RRP listed in WHFs recent review).

They're also Panasonic dealers, with the 65" plasma on the shop floor and the 55" wireless 1080p jobbie in the demo room, Martin, the manager, demonstrated it by standing directly in front of the transmitter! Not sure I'd spend too much time standing there to be honest...

However if you really want to spend some money they're also a Bang&Olufsen dealer (and recently installed a >£30k system for a Rolling Stone...)!

Anyway, apologies if this has started to sound too much like an advert but I thought people might like to know these rare beasts are still out there.

No problems at all: I only get antsy when a brand-new poster appears with an amazing offer he's just spotted...

The really dumb ones post from their company email domain.

Oh, and konbanwa, by the way, and it was two planes, one of which went tech at Heathrow – just the small matter of left inboard engine deciding it didn't feel like starting this morning – causing a three hour delay.

Thanks to very fast flight time to Hong Kong – not much more than 10 hours – we just made our connection to Tokyo, but it was hardly the leisurely change with time for a relaxed Chinese breakfast we'd planned, something of which Mrs E took a very dim (sum) view...

Pioneer discontinued the KRP's before the PDP's, hence they sold out quicker, and many people wanted the best TV they could get, while they still could! A word of warning for those still sitting on the fence about buying one - Pioneer have no more, dealers have taken in their last stocks.....

Well at least you know that if you can't get one cheaper, there's always someone to fall back on!

Yes that was exactly my reasoning! Smile
