Re: Universal Remote

I have heard the Harmony One is the best to go for, but also that it is annoying that there isn't the dedicated coloured buttons. Is this actually annoying? Or do you get use to it?

Re: Universal Remote

It's an inexplicable ommission. However, a lot depends on how often you use those buttons anyway.  Also, the workaround (mapping the buttons to the touchscreen, for instance), works perfectly well. Would still prefer those buttons, however.

Re: Universal Remote

Yes coloured buttons is an oversight.  But still best universal remote you can buy, and you do get used to the touchscreen.

The coloured buttons come on the touchscreen. So it's not an omission. I use it. There's nothing my Harmony One cannot do which the Sky remote can.

Re: Universal Remote

i have a Harmony 525 and it's great! only one problem is that it doesn't have a dock, and it eats through AAA batteries like a ravenous dog (batteries need to be replaced every 3-4 months!). but still you could get one of those, and a bunch of rechargeable batteries and a charger for less than £100. and it DOES have the coloured buttons missing from the Harmony ONE.

Or, what about going for the Harmony 700? I haven't tried it, but it has a charging dock and the coloured buttons too.

One piece of advice i would give - avoid the ones which are TOO touch screen unless you want to spend your life staring at your remote control. Actual buttons are much easier to get used to without having to look at your remote every time you want to do something.

Whatever you decide to do - good luck with your purchase! :)

I know it's a bit dated now but i'd recommend the Harmony 895. Use mine for everthing except PS3.

Where exactly!? I work just off TCR and have been keeping an eye out for these on flea-bay for a couple of months now, but they are consistently going for over £80 - even seen a couple of lucky sellers get over £100...

Re: Universal Remote

I have a Harmony One and don't miss the colured buttons. They are all on the touchscreen. I've assigned a couple of spare buttons to take me directly to Anytime and my planner with one push of a button so the only button I use on a regular basis on the touchscreen is the yellow one to delete programs.

If you really want the coloured buttons then there's always the Harmony 900, an updated Harmony One that has the coloured buttons but there's a hefty price premium over the One.

this was a few months ago, so it's possible i'm not remembering the price accurately... sorry if that's the case... i think there were 4 shops that sold it, and out of those 4 there were 3 that eventually all came down to the same price...
