Oh, don't worry, I will! No surprises Sony being less-than forthcoming, however - it's a massive organisation, and getting answers is notoriously hard. But we'll persist - team is currently pursuing an array of contacts in search for an answer.

EDITED FOR HOUSE RULES

It seems quite a widespread problem and I'm not willing to take a 1200 quid gamble!!

And to think, I thought I'd finally made my mind up!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!

Will be interesting to see how Sony respond and good to see you guys getting involved.

I'd previously made the decision to go for the 46W4500 based on the What Hi-Fi review and subsequent award but will be looking elsewhere now until Sony address this issue which is clearly widespread.

Send the set back. If you have any problems with Sony or the retailer refusing to replace it, contact trading standards. They will tell you that if you are not satisfied with the product & it is not "fit for it's purpose" then you have a legal right to a replacement or refund. I would contact trading standards for verification but it is something along those lines. Make sure that they start your 12 month manufactures warranty from the time you recieve your replacement set.

Re: Many problems Sony 46W4500

Several people have stated (on another forum) that they had these back light bleed problems, but these all went away after a week or two. Another review has just given the 46" 6/10. Sony/stores need to sort this out or at least ensure people that their tv will be ok after a couple of weeks!

If we are thinking about the same forum i dont think they all went away after a while.

I've just had another reply from a Sony rep insisting that they're working on an answer for us - will continue to keep you posted.

Re: Many problems Sony 46W4500

Just read the other review of the 46W4500 and they were scathing about the quality issues e.g. clouding, etc giving the set a whopping 6/10 score overall.

Looks like Sony have got a problem on their hands with this set, quality control seems to have gone to pot completely.

Re: Many problems Sony 46W4500

Before I bought my 40W2000 I was aware that numerous customers had been having problems with the 'clouding effect'. You would have hoped Sony would have sorted it out by now. Having said that, I only notice it mildly on a completely black screen and I never have the backlight setting above 3, it's on zero when watching in a completely dark room.

Re: Many problems Sony 46W4500

Is this clouding only common in the 46 inch? I have the 40 inch ordered and after reading this thread I'm a bit concerned that it may also be present in this model.

Re: Many problems Sony 46W4500

Does the Sony 40w4500 have the same problem?

Not from any model we've seen or report we've had in - if you peruse various threads on these Forums you'll find many satisfied owners.

Re: Many problems Sony 46W4500

No, 40's have it as well, look my post above yours.

You don't notice it when watching something, it's only when there's a completely black screen, although I can't say I've noticed it even with space shots from Star Wars etc.

Re: Many problems Sony 46W4500

But you're talking about the W2000, not the W4500, aren't you?

More happy 40W4500 users here.
