No, 40's have it as well, look my post above yours.

You don't notice it when watching something, it's only when there's a completely black screen, although I can't say I've noticed it even with space shots from Star Wars etc.

But are you reffering to the Sony KDL-40W2000 or the Sony KDL-40W4500?

For what it's worth I've owned a Sony KDL-40V2000, bought from a Sony Centre, for a couple of years now and have never had any of these problems at all. It's still working perfectly.

The same problems have been reported with the 40W4500 on other forums.  Does seem to be a more common issue with the 46" model though.

Well i'm still ordering a Sony KDL40W4500 from John Lewis for my Dad, if that makes anyone feel better.

And if you want to see the Sonys in action - as well as Award winners from Samsung, Pioneer and Panasonic - they'll be running a range of content on our stand at this weekend's Show at ExCEL.

Is this clouding only common in the 46 inch? I have the 40 inch ordered and after reading this thread I'm a bit concerned that it may also be present in this model.
Buy reading around lots of different places it does seem that the 40 has less problems with this issue than the 46. But that maybe due to that it could  be easier to see on a larger screen. In my opinion there is some kind of problem going on some where whether it's with all sizes or just the 46. As i personally feel we are just about getting to the stage where this problem is becoming far to wide spread rather than just the odd set here and there.

I'd be interested in more reliable, first-hand accounts of genuine problems (ie it's a problem in everyday use) to get a better handle on the real scope of the situation, too.

Still no news from Sony, BTW.... Angry

'Cynical, just a bit I am'  would be more Yodaesque and I 'm surprised a SW fan like Clare didn't say that.

Mind you , she has a life and is less pedantic than some.  Embarrassed

I'm anispeptic, frasmotic, even compunctuous to have caused you such pericombobulation

It was just a bit of a joke to lighten the mood a touch no harm meant.
