I once got 6% in an RE exam, and I wrote 5 sides of answers to get that. Just never got the concept and still don't.

I dont get it either! But then again, I was excluded from R.E after suggesting the teacher shouldn't be presenting bible stories as fact!!!

I think it is silly how R.E. is mandatory in schools! Is it mandatory in all schools though? My son has to do it for GCSE.

Re: The world will end in 2012

Hey! ... I have been following conspiracy theories etc for some time and find them interesting... the 2012 story is an interesting one and not to be 'dismissed'... so read with a 'pinch of salt' if you wish

to summarise in simple terms: it all hinges around a large planet/star that has an elliptical orbit, and that orbits the earth every 3600 years ... according to experts, the last time it orbited was approx 3600 years ago (when the great floods happened in Noah's time)

According to experts, things will start happening soon as planet x/niburu approaches(such as major earthquakes, floods and volcano eruptions etc) ... lots is happening in yellowstone at the moment (unusual small earhquake activity on a daily basis)

It is also said that the earth's axis will 'tilt' hence the melting of the ice caps at present ... an intersesting fact was that some prehestoric mammoth elephants were found in Siberia and they were perfectly frozen ... when scientists checked the stomachs, they found lush green grass perfectly preserved (in Siberia?) ... some say that planet x was also the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs?

As for sitchin's thories, in a nutshell, he states that modern man was engineered with dna manipulation by aliens and it was the aliens who assisted in the construction of the pyramids in Egypt (he had these theories long before DNA manipulatation was discovered by man)

The mayans predicted some form of major change in 2012 but not necessarily the end of the world. It is reported that many governmemnts have and are building secret underground 'cities'/places of refuge where the 'elite'/chosen can seek refuge if the carp hits the fan ...

I have also read that Bill Gates has built a large storage 'bank' where seeds for crops are being stored? ...

lots of info on the net, and makes for interesting reading ... Another interesting article that I read, states that shortly the US government will 'open up' and have some form of disclosure as regards contact with aliens/other life forms from other planets, and will explain the 1940's Rosswell incident in detail

Right now, there are lots of theories as regards 'swine flu', but the last time I posted a post/link on this forum, the moderators deleted it??? Angry

interesting/disturbing times ahead??...  and I look forward to seeing the 2012 movie Big Smile

Yes, it looks like The Day After Independence Day.

I love Above Top Secret – never let the facts get in the way of a good theory...

No, it is not mandatory in all schools (at least not to GCSE). Schools are supposed to have a daily collective act of worship but many schools ignore this - including the local senior schools that my son will be potentially attending. My son's junior school has started insisting that all of the children say grace, which he and I are both most annoyed about. I am not a big fan of the US, but they have got one thing right - religion and state are completely seperate and there is no religion in state schools.

I went to a private catholic boarding school for several years ... we had to say grace at every meal ... Flippin Heck hammill! ... nothing to be annoyed about (especially not most annoyed??)

I am sorry that you went to a private catholic boarding school. I hope the masters were not too friendly or too brutal (that usually seems to be the choice). Indoctrinating children is an evil act at the best of times and saying prayers to made up dieties encourages a general attitude of stupidity (lets pray instead of calling the doctor - oh dear my kids dead)  and leads to the religious tribalism that still scars much of the world.

Re: The world will end in 2012

It thought it meant 20:12

So at twelve minutes past eight last evening we all stood in the garden and held hands. The windows were left open so we could clearly hear the strains of 'Non Nobis, and Te Deum Non nobis' playing on the Naim.

At that moment a blinding light exploded across the sky and a great voice was heard to say.. "The b###ers are letting off fireworks again. Did you let the cat in Dave?"

Ah well. There's always tonight.

well I just hope that you have not lodged a 'formal complaint' at your child's school ... if you did, you (and your child) will most prob be 'the talk of the town' during staff breaks in the staff tearoom Party!!!

Well it was a spiritual moment.

Just trying to introduce a little levity into the 'holy war' raging around us here.
