Strange how they haven’t dropped the prices of the 40GB PS3 to try and move these units, you pay the same price and allot cases even more for the 40GB version than the 80GB. 

Unless they drop the prices in these units, I can’t see why anyone would buy a standalone 40GB PS3 when you can get the 80GB PS3 with bundled goodies for cheaper.

If you use the guide and find an issue which you have solved, please post it here and I'll get it updated with any other tips people have so everyone can benefit.

The one I got in the end is the Western Digital 320Gb drive, though I see there is now a Western Digital 500Gb version which will fit. I can also recommend Dabs - I've ordered a few times and only once had a problem which was quickly sorted out via their online Chat facility.
