Tell Me What CD To Buy!

Here's a bit of fun at my expense! I have £350 to blow on CDs! Yay!

But what CDs/SACDs should I buy? I'll give you a little bio of my music tastes and then I'll leave it up to your suggestions!

My favourite band is Pink Floyd, shortly followed by Yes. However, I also like things from Abba (lol), Van Halen, Deep Purple, Coldplay, RadioHead, Fleetwood Mac, The Police and I would like a few proper high-quality jazz CDs in there too...as for what to choose, it's up to you! I'd like to hear your suggestions!

ps. By the way, the CDs don't have to be from the above artists - it's just a little hint about what I like, but I'm always open to completly new genres!

Re: Tell Me What CD To Buy!

What about a bit of Kraftwerk? You see were Radiohead's Kid A roots began. Very influential electronic band.

Or how about some  Einstürzende Neubauten for some crazy German early 80s industrial rock. They use lots of scrap metal and buliding material to produce some really cool sounding stuff.

Lucky you ! I'd have a field day with that amount of cash.

Take some time out and have a good scour on Amazon it's the only place I buy my CD's these day's and their selection is tremendous and also use the my recommened lists people post the various pages as I've found some amazing CD's this way (a bit like this thread I suppose).

As for recommendations here's a few of my favourties at the moment:

Moonmadness by Camel - bought this re-mastered CD recently and it's a belter

Songs Of The Beehive by David Sylvian - another classic, I bought this when it came out on CD and it still sounds amazing

I Advance Masked by Andy Summers & Robert Fripp - brilliant but don't expect The Police !

Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - don't know if this is your cup of tea but what an album

Argus by Wishbone Ash - re-mastered CD and it's definately one of the best rock albums from the 70's IMHO

Black Mountain by Black Mountain - their first album and it's a real grower

Cold Fact by Rodriquez - a lost classic from the late 70's think Dylan on Mushrooms

E.S.P. / Porgy & Bess both by Miles Davis - waht can I say absolute top drawer jazz

Jazz Bizniz Volumes 1 & 2 both compilations and may be quite hard to find now but worth searching out. They are a superb showcase of different jazz artists and styles

Now by Stark Reality - this is a bit of a weird one can't quite decide if it's jazz fusion or Avant Garde but stick with it as it's a real grower and the musicianship is astounding

Nixon / (OH) Ohio both by Lambchop - would be pigeonholed as Americana but overlook that as they are just amazing albums

Reflections of Spain: Spanish Favorites for Guitar by David Russell - a recent purchase for me Spanish classical guitar tunes played by a master, an excellent Sunday afternoon album

Everything That Happens Will Happen Today by David Byrne & Brian Eno - brand new album by two masters back to their best

Fat Albert Rotunda / Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock - two of his VERY funky albums but amazing

Adam's Apple / The Soothsayer - Wayne Shorter two classics of his Blue Note years

Better stop now got carried away there. As you can guess I have a wide taste in music but hopefully you'll find something among these.

I've just added all of those to my list! No I havn't heard all of the Radiohead albums - are you ready for this? I've only got OK Computer & I still claim to think of them as my favourite band! I'll add Rainbows to the list.

I think I can probably buy about 50 CDs with that amount of money, so keep 'em coming!
