Re: Tell Me What CD To Buy!

Open to new genres.

I'm gonna keep on banging my 'Opeth' drum here. You've gotta try 'Damnation'. It's not at all heavy, but is quite proggy and has wonderful acoustic parts. Well recorded and the guy's voice is great.

Of course, if you do want a bit of a headbang, you should take a listen to 'Deliverance'. (Deliverance and Damnation were released together, One heavy, one mellow, both excellent).

Re: Tell Me What CD To Buy!

Some great stuff on here- I like Survivors list particularly.-a couple from me- not in any order of preference

Roxy Music- For your pleasure and Stranded

Stevie Wonder - Innervisions

Nils Lofgren - First Solo Album(plus the rest if you like)

Faces/early Rod- Ooh La La,Every Picture tells a Story, Never a dull Moment.

A couple off the wall

Francis Cabrel-  Les chemins de Traverse, Samedi Soir sur la terre, if you want to get into French folk /rock.(heavy Dylan influence)

Ton Steine Scherben, Keine Macht fuer Niemand -classic seventies anarchic front room recorded rock which no doubt influenced some of the other off the wall suggestions  on here.

Hi Gareth,

I agree! `Long Live` is my least favourite of the three also. I mistakedly typed just Rainbow instead of `Rithchie Blackmores Rainbow`.

Re: Tell Me What CD To Buy!

Hughes – some ideas…..

Les Savy Fav – Let’s Stay Friends - latest offering from seminal U.S. indie punk band

Ancestors – Neptune on Fire – stoner rock / metal – 2 long songs, progtastic

Shellac – At Action Park – minimalist punk rock from one of the world’s greatest producers – Steve Albini – changed how I look at music forever

Minutemen – Double Nickels on the Dime – 47 tracks of funky brilliance

Weather Report – Black Market – cool jazz grooves from Pastorious and co

Billy Cobham – Spectrum – jazz fusion classic – serious drumming and deep grooves

Can – Tago Mago / Ege Bamyasi / Future Days – essential trio of 70s Krautrock classics

The Fall – This Nation’s Saving Grace – good introduction to Britain’s greatest band (imo)

Krallice – Krallice – ambient black metal – don’t be put off by “metal” tag – this is truly astonishing, ambient rock at 200bpm – still getting my head around it – strangely addictive.

Slint – Spiderland – the album that started the whole post rock thing - fantastic

This is a bit of a mixture; some artists will have more immediate appeal to your tastes than others – but all worth checking out. I’m sure I’ll think of a lot more once I’ve posted….

I know...I know...but Metallica killed my last set of speakers and Madonna after that, so I'm staying clear of those this time! Thin Lizzy however...
