Re: Not sure am hearing "true HD"

Hi,

Have you been into the bluray settings and selected DolbyTrue HD as the preferred audio to send out each time you put a disc in? Maybe TDK is auto selecting the DD soundtrack? I don't have TrueHD capabilities nor that player so if it's a dumb question I apologise.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Re: Not sure am hearing "true HD"

Hi, True Blue, I too am having the same issues with the same movie.... Its frustrating...

I have a PS3 and the Denon AVR-789 (sister to the Denon AVR-1909) and can not get the TrueHD light to come on the receiver when watching The Dark Knight... My concern is the PS3 doesn't have as many options with audio than a dedicated BR player..

I know I can press the triangle button and change the language to 2English but that didn't make a difference... I'll have to have a look at a couple of settings in the receiver as mentioned through out this topic and see if any of that fixes my issue...

True Blue:
Hi Prof, done allof above, when TDK playing with HD audio, receiver is getting Dolby Digital 48Khz 3/2/.1

Doesthis meanI need to go back to the BR player?

I think it must do as this what the receiver says it's receiving. Hopefully Audio T can sort it out!

whiteshadow  - you won't get the Dolby TrueHD lit up on your amp from the PS3. The PS3 is unable to bitstream the HD audio formats for an amp to decode, it can only decode them onboard. You need to go to the Video Settings section and under BD / DVD Audio Format (HDMI) choose Linear PCM. This will ensure the TrueHD soundtrack is decoded onboard and sent to the amp as Linear PCM. Also, under Sound Settings, then Audio Output Settings, after you've chosen HDMI, ensure all the PCM boxes are ticked. I'm not sure what the Denon will show, but if you press Select on the PS3 controller, in the top right hand corner it will display what it's decoding. As long as this is Dolby TrueHD, everything should be working correctly.

Re: Not sure am hearing "true HD"

Thanks for that professorhat, I'll try that tonight...

Just another question, on the PS3 do I need to select language 1English or 2English? Does it make a difference?

Re: Not sure am hearing "true HD"

Whiteshadow, as the prof says the PS3 decodes on board and transmits to the Denon in PCM.  The reciever shows "multi audio input" and no HD will light on Denon, just press select on controller and what is being transmitted is in the top right corner.

Prof, thanks again, I will post tonight to let you all know how stupid (hopefully) I have been.

Also on a lighter note my beloved other half has now started nagging about how intrusive the centre speaker of my beautiful KEF system is!! She obviously didnt notice it there over Xmas, (think its a bit of jealousy asspent most of my time yesterday with the love of my life!!!)

Re: Not sure am hearing "true HD"

Cofnchtr, thankyou, yes have checked that.  I change from disc menu when playing TDK but my receiver still says Dolby Digital input. Grrrr. Hopefully get it sorted today, thanks for the help.

Re: Not sure am hearing "true HD"

I had the same issue with my Denon 1909 and Sony BDP-350 in that the sound was excellent but the HD light on the Denon was not lighting up. Basically, the blu ray player was decoding to HD audio and sending to the Denon and the Denon was displaying 'Dolby Digital'. I adjusted a couple of settings on the blu ray so that the Denon does the decoding to HD and now the HD light comes on. Basically, you'll need to adjust the equivalent audio settings on your Panasonic to allow the Denon to decode HD rather that the Panasonic.

Does that make sense?

You want 2English as this is the Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, 1English is the Dolby Digital soundtrack. You can see this once you've got your settings correct as when you Select 1English and then press Select, it will say Dolby Digital in the top right hand corner, whereas when 2English is selected, you'll see Dolby TrueHD.

Re: Not sure am hearing "true HD"

Woohoo!!!!! Big Smile finally got True HD audio (wow!!!!!).

Basically the Panasonic was for some reason outputting at 480p to the Receiver, hence no HD audio.  Once I manually forced it to output in 1080p kerching!!!!!

Thanks to all who helped here, now very happy bunny!!!!!

I was going to add, that last night i sat down and watched national treasure 2. At the start of the blue-ray watching the adds and trailers etc my amp displayed dolby digital only. I ****** around with setting for 45 mins and admitted defeat. I started to watch the film and straight away true HD appeared. Am guessing it only works during the actual film.

Yep, only the film will have an HD soundtrack not the trailers.
