superfi issues

Im not sure if anyone has had any issues with superfies sales guys but i went into the leeds branch to get a few meteres of the qed aniversary speaker wire and with out even saying what speakers i had it was constant hard sell.

The sales guy was like "dont buy new speaker wire buy these reduced wharfedale valdus" and we can demo them for you in the room next door, now this seems a bit desparate so i went up the road to RS and got it at the same price without any questions asked just be aware of the hard sell at superfi.

Re: superfi issues

I suppose in these recession hit times they are trying to hit a sales target that has been set for them. I have no experience of Superfi generally I must admit but I have a lot of time for the RS guys.

Suprising - admitedly Ive never been in to a Superfi, but I normally find its the RS staff that are trying the hard sell.  Well in Cardiff anyway!

Superfi Birmingham sales staff are very curtious never pushy give good solid advice I have a lot of time for them. Richer Sounds across the road never answer the phone or call you back when you have left a message. Nuff saidAngry

Re: superfi issues

I posted a comment a week or so ago as I was a tad miffed that Superfi Leeds had not answered the 'phone a week last Sunday when I was champing at the bit to go buy some new AV kit. It transpires that despite stating on their website that the branch is open, it actually is not (there is a sign on the door which is not much consolation for anyone who has travelled).
After cooling off a little & searching for alternative sources, I have actually bought a new av amp & speakers from Superfi. The sales guy was personable enough & other than suggesting I bought a mains conditioner, was fine.
I have to say my view of RS is slightly cynical, especially when buying HiFi gear. Understandably perhaps they are keen to pedal CA gear (I have CA amp & CDP)which is fine to a point but I have to say that I do think that at times their subjectivity can be questioned when giving advice which involves alternative (to CA) brands. I have bought a tv, amp & cdp & separately, speakers from Richer during the last 12 months or so - upon each purchase when trying to claim my free sennheiser headphones I was told they currently didn't have them in stock & that I should phone them in a couple of weeks. The grumpy old git in me says that they expect you not to bother & if I am a typical example, then they're right !

Re: superfi issues

I did purchase a CD player from superfi in Manchester a good few years ago.  The Rotel cd player I bought ended up not being the new model that I was told it was.  Basically this was my own fault, and I should have left the shop to do some checking before buying, hindsights a great thing.  However, I have worked in a shop and know that one bad salesman does not make a bad company.    Mind you, I now go across the road where the sales staff have been excellent from the start.

Re: superfi issues

Over two weeks ago I email both Superfi and RS re enquiries linked to their web site and potential orders. Nothing back at all. I also email Creative Audio in Shropshire, from these I had a response within 2 hours. After 3  more email exchanges I placed an order for £800 and it was delivered the next day.  CREATIVE AUDIO get my vote. Yes

Re: superfi issues

Leeds Superfi opened about mid-December on Vicar Lane ( I know this to be fact as I went in there several times before Christmas) so not sure why they would have been closed (unless it was Sunday). They were still open on saturday 21 Feb when I popped in!  Never bought anything from them and didn't find them pushy, but the staff I dealt with were keen to encourage me to book a demo for any kit they had in stock. Unfortunately, they had sold out of the Yamaha 763 I wanted, which I bought from the amazingly helpful RS shop about 50 yds up the street.

I have bought interconnects from their website and they were VERY efficient!

Re: superfi issues

I recently purchased a complete home cinema system from Superfi Birmingham. The sales team there were helpful, knowledgeable and keen to help without ever being pushy.

Re: superfi issues

Superfi Birmingham are top notch- I really can't praise them highly enough for all the time and advice they have given me.  RS across the road made up every excuse in the book not to arrange a speaker demo, using amongst others, having to do stocktake and just being plain ol' busy- useless!

But if you really want a bad experience, try Audio Affair in Birmingham.  A certain salesperson I spoke to there was bordering on being abusive.

Re: superfi issues

I popped into the Leeds branch just the other week, for some Mission Speakers. The lad asked what I was after, I told him what I wanted and he didn't push me into other sales or anything like. Anyways, Not long after, I got a demo of the Mission Speakers I went for. It was a great service all round.
