Question about Andrew's blog

In your blog you write about "ripping on different devices".

Can you tell me which is the best to use for sound quality??

Re: Question about Andrew's blog

Having only tried a few computers, with a limited variety of encoders, it's too early for me to make any firm judgements – for now I just note that there are apparent differences.

Re: Question about Andrew's blog

I did say 'apparent', and that I really haven't done enough work (or indeed any serious investigation on the subject) to come up with any real conclusions...

Well my answer would normally be "use Apple Lossless", but if that doesn't work on a NaimUniti......

Re: Question about Andrew's blog

Whether a computer/hard drive has an influence on sound or if it is just a means of importing/storing music files has been covered here; http://community.whathifi.com/forums/t/189192.aspx and the answer is that it does not influence sound. Lossless is lossless no matter the format. The influence on sound starts with the DAC and moves on via the amplifier and speakers. Some also say the cables can make a difference.

Simple really, so you can put your can of worms away for the next HDMI debate. Wink

No, that's not an answer – it's just one set of opinions.

Re: Question about Andrew's blog

How about FLAC. I can't see there being much (if any difference) between FLAC and Apple Lossless.
