Resume playback from where last stopped?

Hi all

I'm confused with my Sony BDPS550 Blu Ray palyer - if I stop a film and then restart it it plays from the beginning of the disc as oposed to the point where it was stopped. This is SO annoying as I have to sit through all the loading again and try to remember where I stopped it.

Is there a setting somewhere to turn on ? as my 10 year old DVD player resumed from the right point even if the machine was turned off.

Thank

Re: Resume playback from where last stopped?

Weird. The other night I was watching 'Defiance', it got a bit late, so I turned it off and went to bed.

Next day, turned on my 350 and it picked up from where I left it the previous night. It had been powered off for hours.

I wonder if maybe it's a disc specific thing? You know, like certain films won't permit you to skip trailers, or cut straight to the film's menu, but others will?

I don't think I've touched any of the settings from out the box, but I have done the firmware upgrades.

I have a panasonic, not a sony, but it does seem to be disc specific in my experience, I think there might even have been a previous thread on this.

Re: Resume playback from where last stopped?

The resume on bluray is not down to the player but how the JAVA menu has been written, this is different for each Disk some resume some don't its just pot luck or incompetence whatever you want to call it.

Re: Resume playback from where last stopped?

I have a Sony bdp-s350, and I have only one disc that lets you resume for where you left off, Goodfellas, all my other discs go back to the start.  But all dvds resume from where you left off.

Re: Resume playback from where last stopped?

The Pioneer BD51 (and presumable others) displays 'resume' when you stop playback - if the disc supports it.
