I've noticed my plasma makes a slight pinging noise - similar to the noise it makes when it's about to be turned on, though not as prolonged, only it's off and has been off all day (it's on standby). Is this normal?

It's not constant, but does it maybe every few minutes.

It seems to have stopped doing it. Either that, or I imagined it.

Has anyone ever noticed any noise/ pinging coming from a switched off plasma?

Changing temperature in the room over the course of the day?

I guess it's possible, but I haven't changed the temperature - in any case, I can't hear it anymore.

Hopefully, I imagined it. There's no reason why it would it make that sound, I don't think.

No, but the temperature in the room will change during the day - enough to make a large screen expand and contract

my plasma is always making strange noises most of the time for about 30 minutes after switch off goes well with the constant spining and cliking from my sky hd wich makes noises also when switched off.

Ok, thanks for your comments, I guess it's normal then, and nothing to worry about.

I have a Pany plasma (42PZ85) that sounds as if a relay is clicking on and off at random times, even if the tv has not been used since the day before(tv is always left on standby btw). It will only do this once though and it's completely random when it does, I have thought about sending Pany an e-mail to see if they can explain it. But I've had it over a year now and it works fine (still got 2 years on the guarantee though), I would love to know what it is though, is it a fault with the tv or is there another explanation ? Who knows.

Like Andrew said it might just be down to a change in the temperature effecting things. It does make the odd creaking noise when it's 1st switched on and things warm up, or for a few minutes after you switch it off but it does not sound like a relay switching when it does this. Normal for a plasma I think, but not sure about the random relay clicking noise though.

Maybe it's got indegestion, all that trapped gas can't be good

I just spoke to panasonic's tech support about this issue, and they said that what I’m hearing is most likely the tv updating itself over the airwaves (epg etc), and that to stop it from making the noise i can switch off the update from inside the menu options.

I was told that I should keep the update enabled though, at most times, but that switching it off would show nothing was wrong with the set.

I shall try that, this evening and hopefully that’s what it is.

The v10 still does that clicking/ pinging sound every so often. I went to the shop where I bought the set and their demo v10 does the same thing. They only just noticed it despite having the set for 2 weeks, but from the testing they did with it this morning theirs only makes that same noise within about 1-2 minutes after switching it off, where as mine does it regardless of whether or not it has been on, and is not limited to once or twice but throughout the day.

They suggested it might be the relay? And they will contact the manufacturers.

Could any other v10 plasma owners please check on theirs - I don't mean sit by the tv for hours until it does it, but if you could watch out for it, say for 5 minutes after turning it off, and listen out for it if you're in the living room reading/ relaxing and the tv's off, that would be great.

COULD THOSE THAT DO HAVE ONE CHECK THAT THEIR TV A) MAKES A NOISE WHEN TURNED ON; AND B) THAT IT DOES IT AT OTHER TIMES.
