the w5500 is only £699 at richer sounds , the 42pfl9664 is £1500 , whfi said that the sony would have got 5 stars in the review if it wasnt for the clouding on the review set , and , when they reviewed it , it was selling for over a grand ..

if i was in your shoes , id buy the sony with an agreement in place for a refund in the event of clouding , richer sounds will be well aware of sonys potential clouding issues , and will probably agree .

i havnt seen a 9664 , but , as good as it may be , i personally could not justify paying £800 more for one , over a very good sony tv , you could buy a sony bd760 £350 , and speakers ,maybe even an amp for the same money .

i guess it would depend how much you personally value having a marginally better picture ? for me , the choice would be easy , unless i had ALOT more money in my bank account ..

I like the v10 (obviously), but I also really like the w5500. If you can get one without clouding, I imagine you'd be very happy with it. I would save the difference and spend it on a good blu ray player and quite a few blu ray films, dvds, boxsets....... 

I haven't seen the philips so I can't comment on that, but for £800 more it would have to be so much better, in fact, given that it's more than twice the price, it would have to be twice as good, which is clearly unlikely.

fuityboy, ive only had my tv for a couple of months and spent a lot longer shopping for one. i always found the sonys picture looking brillant but in the end i didnt want to take the gamble, if it wasnt for the clouding i would have brought a sony. thats why i suggested an alternative like the v10 which looks a classy design and the hd picture looks great too.

dont know if u can download stuff to to ur ps3, but id have some sd & hd on there if u can, the philips really excels with sd but then again hd looks stunning.

I thought Flatscreen was a business consultant or analyst. I seem to recall something along those lines, but maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.

Well I was recently looking at these too. For me, when you put the two next to each other at least in the shop, there is no comparison in quality, the Philips won by far. For me the quality was worth spending a few hundred extra on, though I actually ended up buying the Philips Essence, which has very nearly if not just as good in quality, and was that bit cheaper for me too (not to mention the stunning design).

 As for gaming, my parents have an older bravia 40" and I will say now, once again, there is no comnparison in quality via the xbox360. The Essence is hugely impressive, and I am told the 9664 is better still (though I find it hard to believe). One thing though, the Philips takes a lot of fiddling with to get right, and even then it might occasionally need a tweak if you are searching for the best quality on each individual DVD. The quality of the tv is so good, that it really does bring out the quality of the recording. My older DVD's can look relatively poor at times - just because they are being upscaled so much, and require an extra tweak. The newer, higher quality ones look almost blu-ray in quality.
