Firstly, 'LED TVs' use LEDs for the backlight but are still LCD TVs.
Sony uses LED technology in the X4500 range and the 9.9mm thick 40ZX1. The LED backlighting on the X4500 is dynamic RGB LED. On the 40ZX1, it is LED Edge lighting.
