How to set up an airport express

I'm thinking about geting an airport express but need to know how it would be set up. I have an broadband router and a NAS drive where my iTunes library is stored. My NAS drive is connected directly to my broadband router.

would the AE connect to the broadband router via an ethernet cable or would i need to link to it via wi-fi.

Then, how would my laptop stream music the AE, would it go through my broadband router or would i need to connect directly to the AE's own wifi hotspot.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

The AE can be wired via ethernet if thats your preference. It will connect wirelessly to your existing network. Really easy to set up. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.

Re: How to set up an airport express

The important thing to note is the Airport Express connects to your iTunes Library, meaning iTunes must be running. So even if your iTunes Library is stored on a NAS, you'll still need your PC / Mac running so that iTunes itself is running - this is what the AE unit connects to, either via wired network or wirelessly.

If you want something that will connect directly to the music on your NAS without the PC / Mac running, you'll need a Squeezebox / Sonos type setup or equivalent.

Re: How to set up an airport express

Having taken the plunge yesterday, I can thoroughly recommend the AE.  It takes about 5 mins to set it up to connect to your existing wireless network and get some music playing from itunes.
