If you're really stuck, why don't you ask your retailer if you can borrow a 5000es for the weekend. If they say no, you could always buy one and return it if you don't like it. Not exactly fair, but you might consider that you've given them at least one guaranteed profit margin so perhaps it's not completely unreasonable.
Or a test where you bring your 760 into a retailer that has a 5000 and run them side by side?
Personally, I don't think you'll notice any difference if you're bitstreaming the audio and again, I don't think you'll notice any difference with video performance. But that's just my opinion. While you're at it, test them against a reference CD player. Let me know if you can hear any difference!
