levelling atacama equinox rack

Hi,

I have just recently moved house and upon setting up my atacama equinox hifi rack in it's new home I noticed that the shelves are slightly off level.

Could someone please tell me; is it better to keep the floor spikes tight in their screw inserts and have the spirit level reading slightly out, or level my system by loosening one of the spikes?

Many thanks

BCK

Hi. I had a Target stand with screw in spikes. When you say 'tight in their screw inserts' do you mean screwed all the way in till they can go no further? Is it the case that as you unscrew them they wobble a bit? On my stand, which weighed a ton, if I unscrewed the screws they felt a bit wobbly, but once spiked into the carpet and with the weight of the stand on them, they were fine. If that is the case with your stand I would get the stand level.

If it is not the case, then to get the stand level can you put something under one of the spikes to even it up? If you have a carpet and wooden floorboards the best way to do that is with four Philips headed screws, nice fat ones, screwed throught the carpet into the floorboard and then rest each spike on a screw head. It is then very easy to level the stand by adjusting the Philips screws.

I added 'nuts' to the screwthreads so I could adjust them all exactly but still keep them tight

Re: levelling atacama equinox rack

get the shelves level, once the kit is on the rack they won't be loose.  idc, personally i wouldn't want to couple anything to a wooden floor, just seems like a good way to introduce vibration to the rack.

Re: levelling atacama equinox rack

Spiking into a wooden floor, so long as the floor is level and any loose floorboards are screwed down is an excellent way to keep a rack or speaker stands level and stable. The vibration control is with the rack itself as the micro rocking/vibration of the kit is tiny. That type of vibration is most influential on turntables and CDPs. I am assuming you do not keep elephants in the same room as your hifi. My elephants live under the stairs.
